Never say it all....The painting then becomes boring to the viewer. Suggestion allows for participation and greater involvement of the imagination. I like to use a gestural quality as it suggests movement and whimsey. Colorful vignette studies are a favorite technique in that they allow me to go directly to what is personally interesting, and the paper and watercolors pack easily into a backpack. Even with canvas work, I am more concerned with light and movement than realism. The essence of the subject is all that is needed to capture a feeling. For me, that is what it is all about....FEELING. That is the artist's task, to represent feelings.
